What Do You Worship?
Devotional:
Read: Hebrews 13:1-6
Woe to him that covereth an evil covetousness to his house.
---Habakkuk 2:9
Let us think about what we pursue. What are you giving your life to?
Every one of us is on some path trying to get somewhere to accom-
plish some thing. All of us have a pursuit. We live in a world that
bombards us with the idea that we must keep up with someone
else that our pursuit and our precious moments in life should be given
to "things". We must place the real value, the high price tag, on what
eternal. The precious, most important things are the eternal things.
What we should pursue with our lives is what the Lord Jesus Christ
has for us, the true riches. Our goal is God. We must follow after Him.
Perhaps the most forceful thing in all of the Bible about the sin of
coveting is found in Colossians 3:5,"Mortify therefore your members
which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate
affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, whichis idolatry."Notice
God says,"covetousness, which is idolatry."You would not think of
going into your home and setting up some little wood or stone idol and
looking at it and saying,"I worship you. I adore you. I belong to you."
We would not hink of finding some image or some picture and putting
it in our home and saying,"I worship you. I adore you. I follow you. I
give myself to you." This is why God says that covetousness is idolatry.
allow the Spirit of God to take inventory of your life and reveal what
you are pursuing. Is God your goal?
Thought To Glow:
We become what we pursue.
